How is the maternity benefit calculated in Armenia?

  1. Add up taxable income for the 12 calendar months before the month the leave starts and divide by 12, even if you worked fewer months.
  2. Apply the limits: no more than 1,125,000 ֏ and no less than 46,875 ֏.
  3. Divide by 30.4 to get the daily rate.
  4. Multiply by the leave days and round to a whole dram.
  5. Withhold 20% income tax.

Worked example

Average gross salary of 400,000 ֏, normal birth, 140 days:

  • daily rate: 400,000 ÷ 30.4 = 13,157.89 ֏;
  • gross benefit: 1,842,105 ֏;
  • income tax 20%: 368,421 ֏;
  • net: 1,473,684 ֏, about 10,526 ֏ per day.

With an average of 2,000,000 ֏ the cap applies: 5,180,921 ֏ gross and 4,144,737 ֏ net.

Self-employed and non-working mothers

Self-employed (IE): the base is last year’s profit-tax base ÷ 12, capped at 375,000 ֏. On turnover tax, or with no base, the minimum applies (about 172,698 ֏ net for 140 days). We assume the IE benefit is taxed like an employee’s, and the calculator says so.

Non-working mothers get a state benefit of 50% of the minimum wage (37,500 ֏ a month) ÷ 30.4 × 140 = 172,698 ֏, tax-free. A registered address in Armenia on the first day of leave is required.

What changed in 2025–2026?

  • Since 1 September 2025, sick sheets are electronic and benefits use the 30.4 calendar-day divisor.
  • The benefit is assigned automatically; no application is needed.
  • Health insurance withholding started in 2026 for salaries, but not for maternity benefits.

Assumptions in this calculator

  • The 46,875 ֏ minimum base is inferred from the published minimum of 172,698 ֏.
  • The daily rate is not rounded; if the service rounds it, results may differ by a few drams.
  • For non-working mothers, official examples exist only for 140 days (70 for preterm birth).

Who is it for?

Relocated professionals employed by Armenian companies, IEs checking how their tax regime affects the benefit, and employers or accountants verifying an e-sick sheet.
